Green Bay Writers

Over the past few weeks we have been writing poems. Melanie (Noah's mum) came into Room 5 to do some poetry workshops. She is collecting some poems for the annual Poetry Box competition. One of the poems she taught us about was shape poems.

Melanie has also been collecting book reviews for the books shortlisted for the NZ Post Book Awards and putting them onto the Green Bay Writers website. A picture of Kashish's review was published and the publisher of the book left Kashish a message!

The Day the Lights Went Out!

Yesterday we arrived at school to find there was no power! Many of the children had no power in their homes either! The children were shocked, "What are we going to do?" One said. "No computers, we'll have to go home," said another!

However, we had a great day! We took this teachable moment and ran with it. We created poems, created survival kits, played board games and much more. Here is a slideshow of some of these activities.

Vaiaso o le Gagana Sāmoa

Last week was Vaiaso o le Gagana Samoa, Samoan Language Week. Our week was packed full of Samoan language and cultural activities. On Friday, we learnt about the legend of Sina and the Eel. Here is a video of the legend made by COCONET.TV.

We then opened some Eel heads (coconuts) and had a taste of the juice and the flesh. Here is a slideshow of our experience.
